Every Day and Every Land: Poems on the Tragedy of Karbala brings together three very different poets, united in their retelling of this seismic event in the history of Islam and Muslims.

These events have spawned vast literature including and especially poetry across many  languages. Writing directly in English,the poets also connect the events of 7th century
Arabia with the events of the world today.

All three write in English and bring traditional and modern styles to the topic. There is a style here, for everyone. 

Zainab Kazim, uses traditional rhyme schemes to bring epic vistas vividly to life. 

Narjis Khan, brings a modern take on traditional forms, connecting current world injustices with the epic of Karbala.

Arzu Merali’s free verse links current oppression with the universal message of struggle  found in the story of Ashura.
